Water Facts
On earth, water is a finite resource which is cycled and recycled through the environment. The water you drink today is literally the same water the dinosaurs enjoyed hundreds of millions of years ago.
Over 70% of the world's surface is water yet only 3% is fresh water and 90% of that is locked in ice caps, leaving less than 1% available for drinking.
The water that is available for drinking is all too easily spoiled. To date, over 70,000 potential contaminants have been identified. As little as a single gram of some, such as 24-D, a common household herbicide, can contaminate up to 10,000 litres of drinking water.
When frozen, water becomes 9% lighter per cubic volume, which explains why ice floats. At 100 degrees it vaporises, making water the only substance on earth that exists in all 3 forms, liquid, gas and solid.
The human body is 60% water, even more in children.
Sadly, around the world, more than 2 million people have no access to a safe water supply and 400 million more live with severe water shortages. By 2025 it is estimated that two thirds of the world's population will live with permanent water shortages.
All the more reason to treat it as one of our most valuable assets.
